I create a directory under home called profiles and create a directory for 
each user under it.  These user directories are set, user and group,
to match the user's home directories.  Under the user directories I
create I created a directory named after the computer they are going
to log in on.  Works like a charm, the profile for machine A ends up
under /home/profile/someuser/A.

Maybe the earlier suggestion is for NT or something.
