  Thanks, Russell. I tried this but without success. I made two copies of
the key, on one I changed the IP address to the external IP address and on
the other I changed it to the hostname (not the FQDN). No go.

  In /etc/hosts.allow the last set of directives are:

sshd: .spiritone.com
sshd: .appl-ecosys.com

  Could the order be why ssh looks for the external IP address? I obviously
don't fully understand just how ssh is attempting to contact the host.
