[PLUG] Identifying ASCII codes in a text file

What tool(s) are available to me that identify blocked characters in an
ASCII text file?

For example, I printed a Web page then ran the .ps file through pstotext.
When I look at the resulting .txt file with the pager, less, I see "<AD>"
highlighted where a '-' should be. The same file in the editor, joe, shows a
white-blocked '-' at the same character locations.

I'd like to do a global search-and-replace for these in the file (and I
get other characters in other files, too) but I don't know how to specify
them.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rich
