[PLUG] Debian de-deselct

I got myself into that nasty ground where I need to abort an apt-get
install, it wants to upgrade glibc and I'm not ready for that. So now,
of course apt-get insists I resolve all my issues with uninstalled
packages. I know synaptic will let you unselect stuff. But it is not
installed. I'm a little leery of dselect. How else can I make apt
forget about those packages?
