[PLUG] xdm works but startx fails

Hitting CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE until it stops respawning.

It doesn't work, but thanks very much for the suggestion.  I removed
xdm from the startup sequence a week ago to check this very thing, but
it didn't make any difference.  Then I put it back, since that's the
only way it'll work.
