John,

  There is another way: find a problem that needs to be solved sooner rather
than later, then show how FOSS can provide that solution now. I'm not an
IT/MIS/whatever professional (as my posts to this list over the years will
confirm), but I'm working on getting OpenOffice.org into a state agency to
solve an expensive problem. See the archives of plug-government for the
message I posted there yesterday.
