I gaurantee any functional, external serial modem will work without
any grief.  USB modems don't count to me, and Winmodems are
essentially glorified sound cards, as are external modems made by
Conexant or Agere Systems.  USRobotics Courier external modems (widely
considered top of the line) of any speed are so darn cheap there's
really excuse not to use a decent, real modem.
