I know this isn't the question you asked, but I can't help recommending
arch or subversion. Arch is dead simple to set up and much easier to
use than CVS (and much, um, more reliable in my experience). I haven't
personally user subversion, but given that most of the developers are
also the maintainers of CVS, I'm guessing it's pretty similar but
"better." I've never successfully set up a SVN server, however, so I
don't know. It's also now a GNU project and at
http://www.gnu.org/software/gnu-arch/ I have spec files and RPMS if
you're using RedHat and decide to go that route. I've replaced all of
my CVS repos with arch archives and haven't looked back.
