Well, I'm glad to hear that. In response to another
reply to my message, the kernel is 2.4.21-0.13mdk,
pretty new.

My presenting problem was that I couldn't get any
response from the CD drives after installation. These
are connected to the onboard controller and the large
hard drive and a smaller one are connected to the
Promise controller. I conjectured that having two
controllers with devices connected to each might have
complicated the installation. Now I think I'll try it
again.

Using "linux noauto" disables automatic detection. I
haven't done it that way before, but it is often
essential for owners of notebook computers and there
is thus information about it on the Web.

If your device is actually installed but is not where
you expect to find it, I understand that 

>cfdisk -P s /dev/xxx will list the possibilities.

By the way, I don't know all the options that can be
used with "linux noauto." Is there a list of these anywhere?
