kvim.  Google for it.  Not sure where the site is.  Kvim is a wrapper around 
vim for KDE and I'm fairly sure it is a kpart too.  I think it will be 
embeddable.

I haven't had any problems directly contacting the kmail folks on their 
mailing lists.  Drop them a note.
