Excellent suggestion, make-kpkg works very well.

FYI in case you decide to install more Debian systems if you type bf24
at the boot prompt in the installer you will get 2.4.18 as your default
kernel.  It is still wise to update to at least 2.4.23 due to the recent
kernel exploit.
