[PLUG] Re:RH 8 install goof

My daughter's ifconfig shows;

eth0  Link encap:ethernet  HWaddr 00:A0:C9:74:9E:51
inet addr:12:224:187:4     Bcast:255:255:255:255
Mask:255:255:255:0   blah, blah, blah
RX packets:2872       TX packets:108 

all with 0 errors.

Her lo is Linkencap:Local loopback	

So why can't she ping to the outside or use a browser or send/recieve
email? I added the x1:6:00:a0:xx:xx:xx to her /etc/hosts with no
positive result.
