That'll teach you to upgrade, eh? I'm still using VMware 2.0 since, well,
it works. ;-)

I would suggest backing out the VMware upgrade and see if the problem
persists. Unless you can isolate the problem to either VMware or the GPS
software, it will be very hard to figure out what is going on.

Another option would be to install the old VMware, install another copy of
Win98 and see if that works with the old version of the GPS software. If
so, make a backup then upgrade VMware only and see what happens.

If you can't find your VMWare software, you may be able to get one of
these downloads to work:

http://www.vmware.com/download/download_archive_2x.html
http://www.vmware.com/download/download_archive_3x.html
http://smokeping.planetmirror.com/pub/vmware/software/

Truly ancient versions of VMWare (2.x) will need these binary patches to
work on modern Linux kernels:

ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware

Look for the most recent set.

Good luck!
