A little more digging and I've determined that the motherboard in question had a CF port on it (embedded device) and the SmartDisk device was nothing more than a standard CF flash memory device. <SIGH> On the other hand, I've seen IDE and SCSI drives made of RAM: http://www.bitmicro.com/products_edide.html
