Russ, I believe you hit upon it. With previous versions of Sendmail (Red
Hat 6.2, for example) the log entry would not include lankow.net ... it
would just say 'localhost'. If I could figure out why the newer sendmail
is tacking on the lankow.net, I would have my problem solved.

[root at prj root]# mail root
Subject: testing

Cc:

class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200303072115.h27LFTcC024522 at prj.lankow.net>,
relay=root at localhost

When the email is submitted, the relay is root at localhost - this is
consistent with what log file fromthe earlier version of Sendamil would
show. When the email is delivered, the relay changes.

Mar  7 13:18:40 prj sendmail[24522]: h27LFTcC024522: to=root, ctladdr=root
(0/0), delay=00:03:10, xdelay=00:03:10, mailer=relay, pri=30027,
relay=localhost.lankow.net. [12.224.240.10], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred:
Connection timed out with localhost.lankow.net.

Regards,
Paul
