  Thanks to Rob and Ed I learned a lesson: the file copied to the disk with
'dd' is not mountable. However, when I calculate the md5sum on /dev/fd0, it
matches the checksum of the install.? file on the hard drive.

  In the six years now that I've been running Red Hat I never encountered
this situation so I had no experience in unmountable floppy disks.
