Ok, looks like it'd be good after I capture from v4l somehow. And I
figured out I don't need to worry about channels, I'll use the AV cables
(RCA?) going from my satellite receiver, programming it in advance to
change channels when it is supposed to.
Did you ever have problems with the audio getting out of sync? That's
my biggest concern right now, really... I've downloaded too many divx TV
episodes with the audio way out of sync (likely ripped and encoded from
Windoze, though).
I also use ALSA, do you use OSS?
And wow... lol... those lines look complicated already. I wonder if
makefiles would be in order? :-)

Ah - this grabs from V4L. :-)
But it is written against the avifile in CVS on November 11th... 2001.
Did ya have any problems with that or should I go somewhere else?

Those look very similar, and way super cool if I wanted a TiVo
workalike.. another few years down the road, I think.

Yeah, I think it's been established the MPlayer devs are a bit different
than your typical guys.
I think this settles it - I'm going to have to get a TV card and work on
this for real. :-)
Now... I saw some darned cheap... like less than $50 cheap... TV cards
at Fry's the other day.. I suppose I can talk one of the Fry Guys to
open one up so I can see the chip it uses. :-)
Oh, another concern of mine is I'm using a Duron 650... will it be
capable of encoding ~8 hours of TV a week, do ya think? It's on an
nForce board with lotsa memory bandwidth, so does ok for itself... but I
can probably spring for a new CPU, too, if it's needed. That would push
me way over budget... but 'eh.. oh well.
I appreciate your input! Thanks :-)
