[PLUG] Assessing Hard Disk Usage

This does seem to be of "general" interest. Anyhow,
it's good to know how to find out the usage of various
directories.

The very large allocation to /mnt probably reflects
the fact that the Windows partition is mounted when
the system boots. But what about 28G to "."? That's
about the space on the second hd not allotted to this
Linux distribution.

I, too, am a /usr user. These are the binaries in the
execution path available system-wide, right? Not
surprising.

I'd be interested in advice on HD partition structure
based on the figures below. I suppose it might
indicate that separate partitions were advisable for
/usr and /home.

root at psyche /]# du --max-depth=1 -h
16K ./lost+found
428K ./dev
du: `./proc/1983/fd/4': No such file or directory
129M ./proc
56M ./var
1.5M ./tmp
13M ./etc
19M ./root
2.8G ./usr
6.8M ./bin
6.9M ./boot
3.3G ./home
4.0K ./initrd
73M ./lib
21G ./mnt
244M ./opt
12M ./sbin
4.0K ./misc
12K ./export
1.4M ./graphics
28G .
