Here's a plugin for RH's XMMS that adds MP3 support:

Otherwise mpg123, mpg321, mp3blaster are CLI players. Freeamp (does
anybody still use this?) is another Winamp clone. Rhythmbox is a slick
gnome2 iTunes ripoff if you can get past the "boogs".
