[PLUG] Cell phone as modem with notebook

Something I know! Something I know! (Well, sort of.) We've been working
on this at my house over the last week or so, because once we both can
fax from the cell phones we're axing the landline. So here's what I'd
recommend:
Their website is not a lot of help, and as I looked to find the page
you might want, I see they've changed it so the info I was going to
recommend is not there. I did find a site,
http://homepage.mac.com/jrc/contrib/mobile_office/ which is about
connecting with os x, and guess who sent him info on working it out?
Our very own Randal had this to say:
"Randal" == Randal L Schwartz <merlyn at stonehenge.com> writes:
Randal> I was able to use VZW_STD with #777, qnc/qnc to connect at
14.4. But
Randal> I couldn't get any of the other three scripts to work. How do
I connect
Randal> to the Express Network? Does it require modifying the script?
How?
And, when I looked further, I saw that the answer was to use
user myphonenumber at vzw3g.com, password vzw, phone #777
with the VZW_1X_ON_115200 script
And it works fine. I've got a low-speed connect with VZW_STD when
I'm in QNC territory, and high-speed (cough!) connect when in "3G"
areas.
Thanks for your help. And thank google for being able to peer inside
a PDF. :)
----------
Now, this is from 11/02, so I don' t know if it will help you out or
not. I also found that on the maccellphone group there is a message at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/maccellphone/message/540 that seems to
have the lowdown (it's not a kyocera specific message but it might
help), and that from the bit of info I have been able to unearth,
people have done this with a kyocera, and if it will work with os x
then it should be easy to make those directions work for you.
I really hope this is helpful, I was real excited to see a question I
might actually have an answer for. Good luck!
