[PLUG] Emacs

I'm using RH 8.0 and the default desktop.  What is the trick for cutting
and pasting between Emacs and say an HTML form? The simple texteditor
works as expected, and copy to Emacs works, but going from Emacs doesn't
work. I'm aware that copying something from Emacs puts it into the X
kill ring, I just don't know how to exploit that.
