[PLUG] file system layout question

Dear all:

This is more of a question than problem.

We just bought a new PC at work and we had the manufacturer
installed Linux for us. RH9.
EVerything is great. One of the things that I notice and would be
interested to know
why is the filesystem. The box has 2 disk drive, one is 110G and
the other is 80GB. 'df -k' shows this:

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda5 110610112 4578352 100413028 5% /
/dev/hda3 101107 9347 86539 10% /boot
none 515200 0 515200 0% /dev/shm
/dev/vg01/lv_data 76876840 32828 72938888 1% /data

So I have 2 partitions on /dev/hda. But the 2nd drive is mounted using LVM
as a logical
volume, if I am not mistaken. If I am correct on this, I would like to know
why
it is being formatted this way?

thanks for any answer.
