It's a workaround for older BIOSes that can't boot from high-numbered
cylinders on large hard drives. What Red Hat's installer does is make
sure that /boot is the first partition, guaranteeing that the boot
loader can find the kernel. For an explanation, see the LDP's Large

If your hardware/BIOS is reasonably recent, it's not an issue.
