Reflecting on it I noted the deeper irony that while one can simply 
ignore an entire thread, once an "Off-topic/On-topic" flame war erupts 
within a thread that one is actively reading there's no easy way of 
filtering out the noise (except to block the person who's shouting "off 
topic" individually).
