uname -p might do the trick though.  I'm on a single proc right now, but 
since it's telling me what type of proc I've got, I'm thinking it might 
tell me if SMP is enabled.  Though it might do that even if I don't have 
dual.  Either someone will correct me, or I'll check from work.
