If you're interested in something to use as a teaching language for
a kid with no previous experience, Tcl/Tk, Perl, Java, etc might
be a bit much.

It's a programming language developed as a teaching language by
Gary Koffler, who I know peripherally from the old Amiga days. 
Gary goes back a long ways, was part of Datamost and developed
stuff (mostly games) for the C64, Apple II, Atari, etc.
