[PLUG] The kernel drm driver...

I've noticed for 2.4 kernels that this appears to be seperate, but I'm
not seeing an INSTALL in the source tarball. Is this supposed to be
installed under the drivers section of the kernel tree?
Well, I have Redhat 9 up on my Dell Inspiron 5100, I'm noticing a few
problems. Firstly the dvd/cdrw is detecting six times and I'm getting
three usb device errors regarding keyboard and mouse.
I tried 2.6.4 on my desktop box but it didn't work so well aside from
booting. I used stock Redhat 9 compilers finding out that Redhat puts
out their own precompiled 2.6 kernel which helps with figuring out
which devel packages, seems like all of them, need to be installed.
There's a sys filesystem needed for 2.6 to work, but 2.4 doesn't need
this and I get an error when I switch back. Anyone have any tips?
X doesn't start with 2.6, can't detect the mouse. What in total needs
to be recompiled for 2.6 as far as stock Redhat 9?
I've been exploring 2.6 because it's a kernel for which there is an
Inspiron 5100 acpi patch. As it stands now, I have to run XP to see
how the battery is doing and I don't have the screen turning off
under Linux when I close the lid. Is there an easier to work with
Linux system than Redhat 9 that supports Maple 9.02 Linux edition?
I found a page from a PSU guy that put Debian on one of these,
Debian looks like a better choice for this laptop. I'd like for
example to get lineakd working so I can use all the keyboard
functions, can't get it to compile on Redhat 9.
