The ati driver or the dri driver? (or the framebuffer driver?) 

This depends somewhat on which radeon you have.

dri/framebuffer: just like the other drivers. 
ati: follow the ati instructions (search for linux radeon howto)

No. I really suggest you read some documentation, many of your
questions will be answered by 10-15 min of your time reading a radeon
how-to.
