It is a Yahoo! group, so you need a Yahoo! ID to access it.  That's just
the way it is.  As to the information they ask... do what everybody else
on the Internet does when asked for such information:  lie.

AFAIK, there are no other mailing lists or resources in general dealing
specifically with running Linux on Dell laptops.
