I believe this is covered in the CD Writing HOWTO... in order to write audio 
tracks to a CD, the source must be a very specifically encoded WAV file.  The 
bitrate, channels, stuff like that.

RTFH?  :-)   Google can tell you more specifically.  I'll bet XCDRoast does 
the conversion for you.
