Digging into layer 2 and 3 isn't quite as simple as reading a howto and 
mastering the moment. I suggest that you hire out the work from someone 
that doesn't mind you shoulder surfing (pay attention and take notes, 
the lesson will be a valuable one). If you feel like you need to get a 
jump on the issue and want to try your hand you can look to 
tcpdump/ethereal and your favorite TCP/IP reference material (any layer 
2 reference would be good too but not likely to be helpful given the 
circumstances of your current problem).
