[PLUG] silly mouse issue

I'm running mandrake 9.0 and recently I needed to swap the mouse. I
swapped one ps2 mouse (logitech cordless optical) for another (MS wheel
mouse). I was hoping this wouldn't disable the mouse, but it did.

I reran mousedrake to reset the proper mouse type, but no luck. 
I did an rmmod/insmod on mousedev and input but still no luck. 

Any ideas on how to revive the mouse? I'd hate to have to reboot the
machine just to get it back.
