I would imagine that there could be some utilities that depend on
filesystem-specific file attributes, yeah?
That wouldn't preclude using ext3 instead of ext2, however, because, as
far as I know, they share all the same file attributes.
But someone will have to repeat this if Carla's going to read it because
she thinks ignorance is bliss.
