Yeah.  Cable "modems" are network bridges (cable to ethernet), not
peripheral devices.  Throwing a USB port into the mix has been a
last-minute afterthought for the drooling idiot masses.

No, not really.  Sounds like an RCA and some Motorola modems, which
would work faster in USB mode if they booted connected via USB.
