[PLUG] What is causing a "Device not ready" error message.

My system has been working great, until ....
I have been playing around with usb thumbdrives, usb cammeras, music CDs,
and I have been removing and adding hard drives.
This shouldn't be a problem, except SuSE 9.0 trys to automate things
(a bit like Microsoft does) and this can lead to problems.
At the moment, my /var/log/messages file is getting lots of
messages like:
Jun 7 12:09:13 sco302 kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.

Jun 7 12:21:45 sco302 last message repeated 24 times
Jun 7 12:22:13 sco302 last message repeated 11 times
Unfortunately, nothing seems to give me a straight forward
indication of what drive is causing the problem.
Anyone have a quick idea of what might be wrong?
Sincerely,
David Mandel
