It looks like support for these is pretty poor.  I did find this:

Which is a driver for the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB tuner-- not to be
confused with the plain WinTV USB tuner.  The former streams mpeg2 over
the USB line, the latter some wierd internal format.

I have had good experiences with the bttv-based Hauppauge WinTV PCI cards
in the past, but I have no direct experience with the USB version.
