[PLUG] Trying to configure dial up using wvdial...

I have a friend up in Toledo, Washington who I'm trying to set up a
dial-up server for.

The phone number for her Internet service is 864-8888. If anyone is
local and can figure
out what the authentication method is, it would help. I can dial that
number from Scappoose
at 2 am, but it's long distance. I have an XP home system with dial
settings that got on
to Toledotel when I was up there last. I'm tempted to ask how much DSL
costs at her place
and suggest that she and her friend dump this dial-up service. If it's
around $20 a month,
that might be better.

Wvdial says it doesn't know what to do and waits for a prompt. No
prompt, it attempts
launching ppp, which produces an error about an LCP timeout. If XP's
dialer does
something special, it's a mystery to me.

Even Columbia Center which used to work with Redhat 6.2's wvdial
evidently won't
now. Maybe I'm just missing something. Granted I don't have an account
there
anymore, but I'm getting the same there's no prompt result.
