Hi,

What is a good Linux distribution for installation on an older P1/K6
200-300MHz with 64MB ram and a 1GB hard drive? Something that's not a
resource hog would be nice, but a GUI would also be preferred with
something like Mozilla on it. It would also be nice if the distro is
fairly up-to-date wrt package versions included.

I run RedHat 8.0 on my power systems (9 is too buggy/quirky for me), and
have gotten the latest Mandrake 10.0 ISO's to play around with that
distro. However, I don't really have any experience with smaller
distros (save way back when I played with RedHat 6.2).

I have run Win2K on these low-end boxes, and they work fairly well given
the constraints. I am not very fond of using MICROS~1 anymore,
particularly after obtaining a Sony Vaio system with legitimate WinXP
home/COA installed. It was such a joy finding out about their wonderful
"activation" system, which requires you to call MS voice any time you do
an OS re-install or "substantial system upgrade"... Seems like the
wrong direction for MS to be going - making things annoying/nuisance for
the casual users, while basically doing nothing to stop war3z/pir8's.
It also seemed like they got it right with Win2K - XP essentially seems
like a Win2K downgrade, incorporating the bugginess/"feel" of 95/98/ME...

Thx!
