I've honestly just skimmed this thread, so let me apologize if I'm
coming from Mars....

If you've set your default route and stuff over eth0, then you unplug
eth0 and enable your wifi connection, your default route is likely still
going to be over eth0, even if eth0 is down and your wifi connection has
eth0's IP address.

I'm not sure if you're trying to switch back and forth between wired and
wireless... if you are, just re-issue the route add default gw line
every time you switch to be sure it's set for the proper interface.
