Rob,

Regardless of planet of origin, no apologies are necessary.

The default route _used to be_ set over eth0. This morning I was trying to
get the WiFi connections working on both portables. My fiancee's ThinkPad is
working like a champ; my Sony Vaio is still not quite there. But, there was
no route to the network when I booted with only the WiFi card in.

Tests included popping the WiFi card and plugging in the cat5, then
rebooting. Still no route to the network. Both 'route' and 'netstat -rn'
show only 127.0.0.0.

No, I'm trying to get the wireless going and only switched to wired to see
what happened to my kernel routing table. I've no idea why it won't come
back when the notebook was working perfectly on the cable.

Well, I've a bunch of shopping and errands to do. I'll get back to this
later today. One problem I face is that I'm an occasional SysAdmin so I keep
forgetting how to check for routes, set them back up again and so on. If I
did these things on a regular basis I'd have many fewer questions to ask.
But, that's not my job so I don't want to deal with these issues daily.

Thanks,

Rich
