[PLUG] Serial Port Programming

Hi:

I have a different by related question.
I am trying to talk to my TV settop box via serial
interface.  I have a script from someone who
has done it before.  I am trying to modified
it.  I have tried various combinations but
each time I just get back a very generic error (0x00).
It is the same generic error (0x00) even if I have nothing
connected to my serial port.
I am beginning to wonder if my serial port is "working" or not.
I don't k now what is a good way to test my serial port connection.

Can someone offer any tip on how I can capture the serial port output
so I know that data is passing through it?
