Mel,

  Sure does. That BUI is equivalent to running /usr/sbin/printers from the
command line.

  What's strange -- and may have something to do with the problem although I
forgot to mention it in my original post -- is that no parallel ports show
up in the list of devices. Not on the Web page and not on the dialog box.
Only serial and USB.

  Perhaps CUPS forgot that there are parallel ports and that's why it cannot
send the data out. The printer definitions specify parallel ports but the
admin tools don't see them.

  Is there a way to restart parallel ports within the OS?
