[PLUG] Solved: mail overwriting console

With apologies to Charlie, biff was the culprit. However, turning it off
on the console did nothing; it took turning it off in /etc/profile to stop
the overwriting.

I am still getting a speaker beep on incoming mail (but the console is
left alone, at least). I hope that's equally easy to fix.

I guess that biff was set to 'n' by default in Red Hat. I had not run pine
in my Slackware boxes, but would ssh to the Red Hat server and run pine on
that.

   What a lesson!

Thanks, all,

Rich
