   Since I don't know what existing password the virtual win98 is seeking, I
su'd to root then ran 'smbpasswd rshepard'. I entered a password twice, then
fired up VMware and tried mapping the drive. When asked for a password I
entered the new one. It still didn't like it.

   Good suggestion, got any more?
