[PLUG] Kylix anomaly

I wanted to look at gconfig (in Debian 3.1), but was
informed that GTK was not installed. So I installed
packages to resolve these dependencies.

After that, Kylix, which had formerly been giving me
no trouble, refused to start, with the message:
"GLIBC_2.0 not defined." The standard workaround for
this is: "export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.20." Even so, a
couple of Kylix menus are grayed out.

I assume that it's a lot of trouble. Has anyone else
had an experience similar to this?
