It depends on the use.  But a dual socket motherboard is no longer 
required.  Any Socket 939/940 motherboard is compatible with dual core 
AMD processors, which produces the same effect.  You can still get dual 
processor motherboards but it's not required anymore for SMP, unless you 
want two dual core CPU's (think 4 way).  Both Intel and AMD offer dual 
core solutions.
