Did you run passwd for the new account, as root? You will need to
define a password before you can log in.

If you have, I'm guessing there's a problem with your login scripts,
/etc/profile, /etc/bashrc, ~/.bash_profile, ~/.bashrc (maybe something
from /etc/skel/). Try commenting things in those files.

Also, make sure the default shell is /bin/bash, in /etc/passwd, unless
you specified another shell.

I think that if we were to go to the other side of outer space, we would
find that we are on display in the window of some shop, like a snowglobe
or something. And I bet that we would find that the price has been
marked down several times.
