I'm sure they utilize some Linux servers (what large company with a
website wouldn't, these days?) and are therefore willing to support the
community back a little bit for it.

There was some project I was working with many moons ago that used only
mirrors.playboy.com for hosting... wish I could remember what it was, it
doesn't seem to be there any more (unless it was a CPAN project and I am
mis-remembering).

Not particularly surprising to me.
