I once (circa 1995) rewired a "turbo" switch (which were once a common
feature on PC cases) to select either 5V or 12V for a DC fan cooling
disks. Turned out, 5V cooled fine and 12V was too noisy anyway, so
the selector was mostly useless after the first 5 minutes of use.
