Well, this might be interesting then.

Starting configuration (1):

   NFS Box                       Desktop
   Intel D845GBV motherboard     Intel D845GEBV2

   Intel P4 2.53 GHz             Intel P4 2.8 GHz
   Crucial 2x512MG,266,CL2.5     Crucial 2x512MB,333,CL2.5
   Memtest: Failures             Memtest: No Failures

Configuration (2):

   NFS Box                       Desktop
   Intel D845GBV motherboard     Intel D845GEBV2

   Intel P4 2.53 GHz             Intel P4 2.8 GHz
   Crucial    ---------------->  Crucial 2x512MG,266,CL2.5
   Memtest: N/A                  Memtest: No Failures

Configuration (3):

   NFS Box                       Desktop
   Intel D845GBV motherboard     Intel D845GEBV2

   Intel P4 2.53 GHz --------->  Intel P4 2.53 GHz
   Crucial    ---------------->  Crucial 2x512MG,266,CL2.5
   Memtest: N/A                  Memtest: Failures!

Maybe some kind of cache failure? These CPU's were originally boxed
retail Intel parts, so I am using their bundled heatsink/fans. The
fans in both boxes spin. Beyond that, I can't say much.
